5 unmistakable Signs that your gutters need a repair (or retirement)

The gutters are the great forgotten of the house… until a storm came and the facade turns into Niagara falls. Their role is vital: to collect the rain water away from the foundations, the walls, and the structure of your home. You can even store the rain water with our deposits and decorative use it to water or clean your deck.

However, the passage of time, the sun end of our area and the lack of maintenance will make a dent. How do you know if your drainage system is asking for help before a leak?

Pay attention to these 5 warning signs that you can detect with the naked eye (or we help you to see it from the air with our inspection of drones).

1. Leaks and stains on the boards (The syndrome of the "wringer")

If you have installed gutters of PVC or zinc traditional, you will know that it is assembled by joining sections from a few metres using glue, silicone or rubber. With the changes of temperature, these materials expand and contract, ending with a crack or peel off the unions.

  • The signal: If, when it rains, you see that the water drips through the joints in between, you have a leak.
  • The risk: That constant drip goes straight to the wall or to the floor and sapicando subsequently to the facade, causing dampness, mold, and spalling of the mortar.

2. The dreaded "Buckling or deformation by the sun

The sun end of the southeast do not forgive. Plastic materials such as PVC, they lose their elastic properties and the ultraviolet irradiation continuous and suffer from what we call the "cookie".

  • The signal: If you look at the gutter profile and you see that makes curves, "lazy" or that is sunk in some areas, it has been deformed.
  • The technical problem: The water needs a slope exact and constant towards the downspout to drain by gravity (following the guidelines of the Technical Building Code). If the gutter is deformed, the water stagnates in those bellies, increasing the weight on the anchors and spilling to the minimum of change.

3. Overflows constants (Sizing wrong)

Do you feel that your gutters are perfectly clean but, as falls a heavy shower, the water jumps up as if nothing had happened?

  • The signal: The water overflows all around the edge of the profile instead channelled to the vertical pipes.
  • The reason: It is very likely that you have a sizing wrong. Or the diameter of the gutter is too small for the square footage of your roof, or are missing downspouts to evenly distribute the flow of torrential rain so typical of our region. A system inframencionada is as useless as not having anything.

4. Cracks, fissures and holes (Especially after hailstorms)

The weather is becoming more crazy and hail storms are no longer a surprise.

  • The signal: Longitudinal cracks or, in the worst cases, holes direct at the base of the gutter.
  • Why it happens: A gutter plastic old, already roasted, and parched by the sun, becomes extremely brittle. The minimum impact of a hail, burst and cracked. The water, of course, is colará out there prior to arriving at your destination.

5. Plants and "life itself" in the gutter (severe Obstruction)

  • It is not a joke: we have come to see authentic botanical gardens growing in the eaves of some houses.
  • The signal: Poke leaves, grass, twigs, or birds ' nests above the edge of the gutter.
  • Danger: The accumulation of dry leaves and sand drags the rain of the tiles to create a mud-heavy blocking completely the entrance of the downspout. In addition to the jam and the overflow, the weight of all that wet earth can get you to start the anchors of rennet, making the gutter fall.
